AMT National Convention 2013 – Cheshire East
Cheshire East is to host AMT’s flagship event – the 2013 Annual Convention – after Congleton’s five Town Partnerships submitted an exciting proposal including plans for Convention activity in Congleton, Alsager, Holmes Chapel, Middlewich and Sandbach.
This year’s Convention will take place on 6 and 7 November and will feature a packed programme to support towns and high streets, as well as the announcement of the Winners of the Towns Alive National Awards.
Delegates will exchange ideas, learn how Government policy will affect them, and pick up new ideas for projects and plans that will boost their towns and high streets.
Speakers & Workshops
Speakers and workshop leaders from all over the UK including policymakers and other key national figures will share their advice. Much of the programme including plenary sessions will take place in Congleton Town Hall, with workshops featuring in Congleton, Alsager, Holmes Chapel, Middlewich and Sandbach. All of the five towns have developed active Town Teams and will share what they’ve learned in this process with delegates in special Convention sessions.
2013′s Convention will also feature a park and ride system to link the five towns, so that delegates can maximise the learning experience.
The Convention will be supported by Cheshire East Council and the five Town Partnerships.

The 5 Town Partnerships – Achieving More Together
The 5 Town Partnership Forum is a successful model of “super partners” working with a common purpose to enhance the local area by harnessing the support and enthusiasm of local communities.
This interactive workshop focuses on partnership working. It will provide you with the opportunity to find out about:
- Joining together and unlocking the power of local communities.
- The results of active volunteering, and what “interest and involvement of local residents” really means.
- Achieving significant investment from grant funding for things which may seem impossible.
- Working with local authorities to achieve the maximum benefit by sharing resources.
- Our successes but also our failures and how we worked through them.
Whilst we will be sharing some of our achievements we welcome the opportunity to work with delegates to hear about their aspirations, successes and any current issues.
Glyn Chambers, Project Officer from Holmes Chapel Partnership will welcome delegates and facilitate the session. The Chair of Holmes Chapel Parish Council and Mayor of Sandbach Town Council and will also attend, as will the Chairs of Holmes Chapel and Sandbach Partnerships and two Ward Members from Cheshire East Council (who are also members of the Council’s Cabinet).
Those bells and hankies are back in Sandbach again!
On Saturday the 14th September, Sandbach will once again host the popular Day of Dance of Morris Dancing.
Dance teams from around the region have been booked to perform from 10:30am to 3:00pm – with a short break for lunch - on The Cobbled Square, outside the Old Hall and inside St Mary’s Church Hall.
New for this year is an opportunity for children of all ages to have a go at Morris dancing. Teams will run free taster sessions in St Mary’s Church Hall throughout the day.
This free event, which has received a grant from Sandbach Town Council and funding from The Old Hall gastro pub and Waitrose Sandbach, will be a lively, colourful display of different types of Morris Dancing, such as Cotswold Morris with hankies and bells, North West, with dancers in clogs and Border Morris with rag coats and disguised faces.
During the day there will be opportunties to taste the wonderful food on offer at the Farmers Market, enjoy the BBQ put on by the Old Hall or light refreshments in The Church Hall provided by two local community groups. All this and the wonderful range of specialist shops that Sandbach has to offer!
It is hoped the day will attract an even larger number of both local spectators and visitors from further afield than last year’s event – fingers and toes crossed for another sunny day!
