This is a joint project working with Sandbach Park Steering Committee. It is exciting, ambitious – and expensive! So far we have raised £26k and more is required for us to complete the project.
The aim is to revitalise the whole of the Pond area to improve the habitat for existing and new species, increase public awareness of this area of the Park and improve accessibility for all. Additional pond levels will be introduced, followed later with a new boardwalk, which will allow pond dipping enabling the Pond to be used as an educational resource especially for local schools
Work is planned to start on 14 January 2013 excavating the pond area, and this is expected to last until 4 March, subject of course to ground conditions. Later in 2013, volunteers, including local community groups, will begin the work of re-stocking with aquatic plants.
When additional funding is available, the boardwalk, information boards and some seating will be provided. Updates will be posed on the Park notice board.
Although the pond area will start to show some signs of improvement by the autumn of 2013, further work on the Project is likely to take at least a further year.
The Friends of Sandbach Park and Park Steering Committee wish to thank Park users and local residents for support and patience whilst the Project progresses.
